Safety assessment system for the operation of coke batteries in terms of production of high-quality coke for the steel sector
OPIS PROJEKTU nr POIR.01.01.01-00-0497/18
entitled: Safety assessment system for operation of coke batteries in terms of production of high-quality coke for the steel sector, co-financed within the framework of Measure 1.1: R&D projects of enterprises, Sub-measure 1.1.2: Industrial research and development works implemented by enterprises of the Intelligent Development Operational Programme.
The project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Intelligent Development Programme. Project implemented under the competition of the National Centre for Research and Development: Szybka Ścieżka.
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
The objective of the project implemented by the group of companies consisting of: : Koksownia Częstochowa Nowa Sp. z o.o. (KCN), HPH-Hutmaszprojekt Sp. z o.o. (HPH), Zarmen Sp. z o.o. (Zarmen) is to develop, within the framework of industrial research and development works, an innovative on a European scale prototype of a system for evaluating the operational safety of coke batteries in the aspect of producing high-quality coke for the needs of the steel sector, and to prepare it for implementation in the production activity of KCN.
EXPECTED RESULTS
The result of the Project will be a process innovation in the form of a prototype system for safety assessment of coke batteries operation, in terms of "continuous" production of high-quality coke. The novelty of the result of this Project is an improvement of the currently used technique of assessing coals and coke in the production process of coking plants in the aspect of both the quality of raw materials and products as well as safety for the operation of the coke battery.
The developed prototype will consist of a furnace with movable walls, where the average pressure acting on one wall will be measured for one wall, while the pressure acting on selected areas of the wall will be measured for the other wall. Such parameters will ensure the safety of the production process and increase production efficiency, while maintaining the expected life of the coke battery. To assess the energy efficiency of the process, it will also be possible to monitor and test the shrinkage of the feed in three directions, as well as monitor the temperature of the feed. The implementation of the system will improve the quality of coke produced from the same mix or in terms of producing coke of unchanged quality from a poorer, and therefore cheaper, coal mix.
The project runs from April 2019 to October 2023.
