Coke is a fuel obtained by industrially heating of hard coal at a temperature of 600-1200 °C in a specially constructed coke oven using flue gases (without oxygen). It is a fuel with a higher calorific value than ordinary fossil coal, as it contains at least 90-95% pure carbon; with the use of special coal grades and appropriate technology, even a purity of 98% can be achieved.

The production of carbon-based products is all about effectively caring for the environment while achieving economic benefits.
A carbon-based product is a liquid or volatile substance produced in the coking process.
Using state-of-the-art methods to purify crude coke oven gas, we produce:
- coke tar with appropriate constant parameters through the use of modern tar centrifuges,
- crude benzol containing aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene and xylene,
- liquid sulphur produced using the Claus method.
In the production of carbon-based products, an innovative method of heat extraction is used with the help of diathermic oil, which allows the heat to be used for further production processes.
Coke tar, crude benzol and liquid sulphur can be used in the chemical industry.
Coke oven gas
Another product of the raw coke oven gas purification process is purified coke oven gas, which is a fuel suitable for combustion.
Processing crude coke oven gas into clean fuel using the most environmentally friendly and cost-effective methods requires energy-efficient processes to reduce emissions of harmful substances and minimise contamination in the waste water.
Approximately 50% of the coke oven gas produced at Częstochowa Nowa Coking Plant is used for technological purposes related to the heating of coke batteries and the production of carbon-based products.
Our coke oven gas contains up to 60% green fuel, which is hydrogen. This means that the electricity produced at the power unit built at Our Coking Plant by ZARMEN GROUP companies is generated in an environmentally friendly process. Ultimately, the power unit will meet the energy needs of our plant.
Coke oven gas as a gaseous fuel is used in cogeneration units. Reducing losses of purified coke-oven gas is achieved by diverting all surplus gas to our own power unit.
